Renewable local raw material, short transport routes, clear traceability and transparency - with WATER PLANT we set new standards in terms of sustainability.
The material of WATER PLANT originally comes from aquatic plants of the Danube region in Austria. The growth rate of so-called macrophytes has increased rapidly in recent years. The water plants can grow up to two metres within only four weeks.
The excessive overgrown macrophytes are regularly mown down by the City of Vienna to ensure undisturbed bathing pleasure in the Danube. This results in around 4000 tonnes of biomass per year in the Old Danube alone. Until now, the aquatic plants were harvested and burned.
An enormous waste of resources, we think. Together with BOKU, the University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences Vienna, we have started a project in 2022 to find a further use for this interesting raw material.
With the help of HIRSCH Nature technology, we create new potential for these macrophytes. We carefully grind up the dried aquatic plants. Then we apply them to the carrier material in a complex process and use them to make a watch bracelet that has never been seen before in this form anywhere in the world - and is only available from us!
Sustainable and 100% animal-free, the WATER PLANT model naturally also meets all requirements in terms of quality, wearing comfort and durability.
