Corporate Social Responsibility

Hirsch

As an Austrian family business in its ninth generation, we take our social, environmental, and economic responsibilities very seriously.

Everything we do, we do conscientiously and with passion, always considering its impact—from both a business perspective and the perspective of our stakeholders.

The high-quality manufacturing of our watch straps and the responsible sourcing of materials are therefore central to us.

All leathers and strap components used are safe for health and are applied in accordance with legal requirements. We maintain strong, long-standing partnerships with the suppliers we carefully select.

Founding member of AQC

HIRSCH is a founding member of the AQC (Association pour l’Assurance Qualité des Fabricants de Bracelets Cuir). Based in Switzerland, this international association is dedicated to ensuring the quality of leather watch straps.

All AQC members are subject to the highest standards in terms of traceability and compliance of the materials used in the manufacture of leather watch straps.

The association is committed to sustainable development by incorporating the entire leather strap supply chain. Competence, safety, confidentiality, and reciprocity are the key values guiding collaboration among all AQC members.

REACH & CITES

In the production of our watch straps, we naturally comply with all international laws and agreements, such as REACH and CITES.

REACH is one of the strictest chemical regulations worldwide. The registration, evaluation, restriction, and authorization of chemical substances are governed in the European Union by the REACH Regulation (Registration, Evaluation, Restriction and Authorisation of Chemicals). This regulation ensures a high level of protection for human health and the environment.

Manufacturers and importers of chemicals are required to submit data through a mandatory registration process and independently assess the risks posed by these substances. Without registration, chemicals may not be placed on the market. Authorities support stakeholders, review registrations, and regulate substances of very high concern or those posing risks to humans or the environment. REACH therefore ensures a high level of protection for both health and the environment.

HIRSCH is also fully committed to the Washington Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) and strictly complies with its provisions for all exotic materials. As an instrument of binding international law, CITES applies to around 180 contracting states. We work closely with all relevant authorities to uphold our principle of “protection through sustainable use.”

The leather processed by HIRSCH comes from species-appropriate animal husbandry or controlled hunting sources and strictly complies with the CITES convention. Imports, exports, and re-exports of animals and plants listed under the convention are authorized through a licensing system (CITES documents).
